This piece was commissioned by Granite Hills High School in El Cajon, California where the composer's wife is Director of the Choral Department.  Based on a traditional Irish text, the performance suggestions on the first page say "This music was commissioned to be sung in Spring concerts as a choral blessing to those singers graduating from high school or college.  It would also be appropriate for commencement ceremonies and as a benediction in worship services.  At Granite Hills, all choral groups traditionally sing this piece in their final concert of the year."
